The guide on this private tour is an art historian trained in modern art history, and the entry ticket is the one thing the visitor still has to buy. Two hours go to the collection Peggy Guggenheim built in her own house, with as much attention on her as on the paintings: her life, a few anecdotes, and the part she played in Venetian life.

The route takes in the permanent collection, the Nasher Sculpture Garden, the Schulhof collection and the terrace with the Marino Marini sculpture over the Grand Canal. Picasso, Calder, Kandinsky, Giacometti, Pollock, Miró, Ernst, Dalí and Mondrian are among the artists whose work hangs in the palace. The group meets outside the entrance, on the canal side.

Buying the ticket online beforehand avoids the queue, and the museum is closed on Tuesdays. The tour suits visitors more interested in the person behind the collection than in a ticket bundle.
