Bilbao Scavenger Hunt: Self-Guided Walking Tour by App, 3.7 km
There is no guide, no meeting point and no start time, and nothing on the route needs a ticket: every riddle is tied to the outdoor side of a sight, so players never pay extra or go inside. The game runs through the World City Trail app and can be paused for a drink in the Casco Viejo or a walk along the Nervion River, then picked up again later, even the next day.
The app asks players to solve riddles to unlock each next stop, with the history and legends of each site and local restaurant and shop tips along the way. More than 10 attractions are on the route, including Dona Casilda Iturrizar Park, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Zubizuri, City Hall, Teatro Arriaga, Plaza Nueva, Santiago Cathedral and the Ribera Market, plus a few hidden spots revealed during the game. The Guggenheim puzzle stays outdoors, around Gehry's titanium building.
The order of the stops can be changed and some can be skipped. It works for couples, families and groups, and it doubles as a team-building activity. The walk covers 3.7 km and needs an internet connection.
