Bilbao Romantic Quest: Self-Guided Love Words Walk Along the Ria with App

Everything in this game starts from one donor. Dona Casilda de Iturrizar gave Bilbao its park almost two centuries ago, and the quest sends players after the 10 words of love she has hidden across the city, each one in Euskera and each one tucked into a piece of public art.

The Questo app on a smartphone runs the 75-minute walk along the ria, and puzzles at the stops unlock Basque legends and the love words. The route starts in Dona Casilda Park, with its fountains, and passes the Museo de Bellas Artes. By the river come the Guggenheim's outdoor sculptures, Jeff Koons's Puppy and Louise Bourgeois's spider Maman, then the women hauling ropes at Las Sirgueras and the white arc of the Zubizuri Bridge. At each clue stop players can stay as long as they like before starting the next clue.

It is made for couples and curious walkers who like a puzzle with their sightseeing. No prior knowledge of Bilbao or the Basque language is needed, and one device can serve up to 3 players.
