Artist-Guided Tour of the Guggenheim Bilbao with All-Day Museum Access

Artists lead this tour of the Guggenheim Bilbao, and the ticket covers the museum for the whole day, so the visit does not have to end when the guide does.

The route starts with the building itself: Frank Gehry's undulating curves, covered in about 33,000 thin titanium sheets, and the structure behind them. Outside come the public sculptures, Louise Bourgeois' Maman (1999), a bronze, marble and steel spider almost nine meters tall, and Jeff Koons' Puppy (1992), a stainless steel terrier planted with flowers.

Inside, the stop to plan around is Richard Serra's The Matter of Time, made between 1994 and 2005: a series of enormous curved steel plates that visitors walk through, in Gallery 104, a hall without pillars. The permanent collection follows, where Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning and Andy Warhol are among the artists.

With a ticket valid all day, the guided stretch works as an orientation, and the rest of the day can go to the rooms that held the visitor's attention.
