Dragonstone Climb, Bilbao Pintxos and Guggenheim Exterior: Private Trip from San Sebastián
The climb comes with a ritual. The stone steps up to the hermitage at San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, more than 240 of them, end at a bell that visitors ring three times for good luck. The operator markets the islet as the real Dragonstone of Game of Thrones, home of Daenerys Targaryen.
Bilbao is on foot. The old quarter and its Siete Calles, the first seven streets of the city, lead to Plaza Nueva for a pintxo and a drink, then to the Mercado de la Ribera, the covered market that opened on August 22, 1929 and covers 10,000 square meters. A 30-minute walk along the river follows, up to the Guggenheim, which shows the old city and the modern one side by side.
The museum is seen from the outside unless the option with a tour inside was booked, and the outside gives plenty to look at: the titanium cladding, Jeff Koons's Puppy at the entrance and Louise Bourgeois's Maman near the footbridge.
The day is private from San Sebastián, with air-conditioned transport and a local guide.
